Description Biography

With the pending removal of FIM™ elements from the IRF-PAI document effective October 1, 2019, Inpatient Rehabilitation Facilities (IRFs) are thankful for the reduced administrative burden of collecting two sets of data. But, along with the reduced burden comes some risk. Along with the change, the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) will rebase the CMG categories to utilize the GG Section of the Quality Indicators as the basis for functional status input into payment making accurate scoring of these components important to payment. This program is designed to address the perils of "simply removing FIM™ elements" from an IRFs documentation and to address success strategies for assuring accurate and compliant scoring.

Additionally, you will receive an update of what other changes are expected to be implemented with the Final Rule for 2020.

Why This is Relevant:

While the reduction in administrative burden is welcome, there is a risk of reduced payment for organizations that do not train well for correct scoring of these Quality Indicators; and because IRFs have been collecting data for several years, some organizations may feel that scoring is accurate when it has been sidelined by FIM™ thus far. And, as healthcare moves toward to site neutral/unified payment, IRFs can expect this group of Quality Indicators to serve as the basis for that proposed change in payment methodology. Getting it right now will help organizations manage future changes.

Learning Objectives:

From this exclusive RACmonitor webcast, led by one of the nation's foremost IRF experts Angela Phillips, you and your team will…

  • Understand how this switch in scoring from FIM™ to the GG functional indicators can impact both process and payment;
  • Gain a better understanding of the differences in scoring of the functional components of the new Quality Indicators as compared to traditional scoring of the FIM™;
  • Learn how other organizations are preparing for final implementation, including areas that have been most challenging;
  • Come away with a focused "final readiness plan" and checklist to promote success for this new requirement; and
  • Have an increased understanding of additional changes for FY 2020.
